Based on several wireless sensor nodes,WSN While considering the WSN deployment in large scale, we need to deploy several thousand nodes, which need to be managed and controlled and obviously human configuration error cannot be avoidable, sensor batteries efficiency also matters especially in the situation (long distance, forest etc.) where we cannot change batteries so early.
Applications which are deployed on large scale, sensor networks cannot operate in complete isolated environment. There must be a monitoring system from which we can connect sensor network to existing network infrastructure such as through internet or LAN.
Delay tolerant networking (DTN) is a proposed technology to provide route between non-fixed locations of computers or challenged networks that undergo from irregular or high delay connectivity. Its architecture and protocol provides a technique to interconnect challenged networks by routing,switching, and scheduling. As WSN is also defined as challenged network due to its often weak communications, DTN is a proposed architecture to interconnect with TCP/IP networks with WSNs to monitor. TCP/IP and sensor network interconnection can be done by implementing DTN overlay on WSNs and LANs/WANs defined as endpoint identifiers (EIDs).Challenges with DTN-WSN implementation is persist as the applications usually monitored in WSNs can be divided into two categories, continuous or event-driven, based on data reporting mechanism.
Simply, we can say DTN is a way to connect WSN to internet, having this, we need application interface such as Contiki or condriod for android cell phone.
